What is Immersion Based Language Learning

Created: Tue Mar 10 2026

I will be brief with this article, as there’s a lot of information out there already on the language acquisition theory by Stephen Krashen. Essentially, the idea of immersion based learning is that the best way to learn or acquire a new language is to immerse ourselves in that language. It’s the same way we learned our native language as children. By inputting hundreds of hours of listening content, our brains can decode the language and naturally pick up meanings and gain accents. That concept was the main reason for creating this website because I wanted to find more content in Spanish. Specificially, I wanted to find content from a single country in order to learn that dialect of Spanish and gain that country’s accent.

To learn more about this concept, check out Dreaming Spanish’s article which explains this in much more detail and helps to show how to put the concept into action. They teach a more “pure” method of immersion which doesn’t include reading or flashcards of any kind. Other methods such as Migaku teach what I consider to be a more efficient method that does include using flashcards and adding reading as well. Both websites are excellent resources for learning Spanish in general, and I highly reccomend them!
